Acupuncture at WitsendHealth

Acupuncture (Dry Needling, sometimes known as (IMS) Intramuscular Stimulation) is derived from ancient Chinese medicine and involves the stimulation of nerves under the skin and muscles in the body, using solid, thin, single-use needles. The traditional theory of acupuncture holds that the healthy functioning of the body is governed by the flow of a life force called “Qi” (pronounced “chee”). This life force flows through channels of the body called meridians.

Acupuncture (Dry Needling, sometimes known as (IMS) Intramuscular Stimulation) treatment is based on the belief that the interruption of the flow of qi can cause illness and pain in the body; acupuncture is used to restore the flow of Qi to normal, and provide pain relief.

Modern Western, or medical acupuncture, treatment is designed to treat a wide range of health conditions, including tension headaches, migraines and a range of other musculoskeletal conditions, such as chronic pain and muscle pain.   The British Acupuncture Society has over 2,500 members. It’s sometimes advisable to discuss acupuncture treatment with your GP in the first instance.
